Hello!
There has been a lot of snow and a lot of rain lately. And I am not a fan of either. Especially when it rains right after it snows. I haven’t been a winter person for quite some time, but have always ended up living in places with the winter. I want it on Christmas morning and that is it.
I also used to love summer more than anything. Now, I am all about spring and fall. The summer is too hot, too humid, there are too many bugs.
The good news is that we are only about seven weeks away from the sun setting after 7:00 PM. And that makes me so happy. The sun. The wonderful thing that makes plants grow. The lightbulb in the sky. The thing that makes us all feel a little better and cheerful just by being there. I bought one of those lights for the winter to put on in your office. I haven’t used it in forever. Maybe I should turn it on again.
Never, Gabe. Never.
Today’s Edition
I have added some new sections to the newsletter. I am still trying to figure out this newsletter. What is the theme? Who exactly is the target audience? What do I want to include in the free version vs. the paid one when I roll out that option soon?
In the meantime, thanks to all that have been reading this newsletter for the past nine months!
A Little About Me
If this your first time here, I wanted to tell you a little bit about my professional background. And if it isn’t your first time here, maybe there are still some new things for you to learn!
I have been in sourcing for 11 years. After struggling to find a solid career out of college, that is what happens when you study Filmmaking and Creative Writing, I eventually found my way into Sourcing, which I didn't even know existed. Since then, I love to help other people find jobs, as I know what that struggle can be like.
I have worked worked in RPO, corporate, and agency backgrounds and have hired in industries like banking, manufacturing, veterinary, dairy, tech, and pharma.
I am a six-time conference speaker, having spoken at Sourcing Summit, Evry1, SourceCon, HRTX, and ATAP's Global TA Day. I am a three-time Dueling Sourcing, an ERE panelist, a podcast guest, and have written blog posts for different sourcing publications.

Let’s Talk About It
LinkedIn just posted an article about the fastest-growing roles in the U.S. This list can be great for people in college trying to decide a major, for people who have been laid off and might think of pivoting, or just anyone who is looking for a career change.
Some of the roles include Environment Health Safety Manager, Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion, Artificial Intelligence Analyst, and Physical Therapist.
But I was very surprised to see that number 9 was Recruiter.
In the last three years, I have been laid off twice. It is very hard to believe that this not only made the list, but was in the top 10!
What are your thoughts?
You can read the full list here: LinkedIn Jobs on the Rise 2024: The 25 fastest-growing roles in the U.S.
Relatable Content
I like this idea. How many would you want a year? I’d say, at least one a month. Soon enough, job postings would read: “We provide PTO, JNFI, sick time, and holidays.
Its hard to find this funny because I have been disappointed so many times by the machine being down. However, when that happens, I just get a milkshake. McDonald’s has SUCH good milkshakes. If you can get the chocolate and strawberry mixed, do it!
I just saw Jimmy Eat World a few months ago! It was the first time that I have seen them since high school. And they are still fantastic. I just wish they didn’t lie to us.
You know what? Forget it, Jimmy Eat World. Just eat it all up.
I think most of us feel this very much right now. I remember being in shock the first time that I saw cream cheese for $6.
If you receive three job rejections, do not tell your grandmother about it. She will still love you just the same, don’t worry about that. However, she will go on to tell you about how you shouldn’t complain and how you should be able to still afford everything.
This could not be anymore true for America. This sums up America in one post. I also love the ones about the Out of Office message, but as a huge zombie fan, this post is just brilliant. And sad. Brilliantly sad.
The amount of time that we have wasted in situations like this. Hiring Managers always want to see “What else is out there?” Even when they have the perfect person right in front of them.
A Boolean String:
I use Boolean for 8 hours a day, Monday-Friday. And I also use it at night. And on the weekends. It can be used so much in our day-to-day.
I have given many trainings at previous companies to educate TA people and even non TA people how to source. The first thing that I always show people is this:
You go to Target and see a black dress that you like. But you don’t buy it. You get home and decide to go online and buy it. But when you look up: target black dress on Google, you get about 288,000,000 results. After not long, you are seeing results for black dresses with a target on them, black dress socks, and just different items at different stores. A Google search for site:target.com "black dress" -socks gets you about 12,900 results.
TA News
To find these articles, I just type in words like: “talent acquisition” or recruiting or recruitment onto Google News. I don’t really use Boolean, I type them in separately. The best thing to type in is “talent acquisition,” because anything about recruiting usually brings you to sports news or army news.
I will continue adding these to the Google Drive!

Articles for Those in Talent Acquisition.
I just added 43 new articles, including the ones above! I am going to count how many there are in there in total. I will provide that number in next week’s newsletter.
As usual, please feel free to bookmark this, share it with your colleagues, and keep checking back for new content.
